Lacerations
Over the years, we have found that it is impractical to do suturing (stitching) of simple cuts or lacerations. There is a certain expertise as well as a time requirement that we have found is better suited to an Emergency Department (we usually refer to Rainbow Babies and Childrens EW, Hillcrest EW or Chagrin Highlands UrgiCare Center). However, we have gained expertise in the use of Dermabond, the medical “superglue” material that can be used quickly and safely for wounds that come together easily. Whenever there is a question, we will evaluate your child and determine if the wound can be suitably closed with Dermabond. Wounds that are not suitable include: dirty wounds, deep wounds and very jagged wounds where the two sides either do not come together or there is missing skin.
